Pakistan suffers from high casualty rates from both natural and human-made disasters due to insufficient health infrastructure, which exacerbates the immense challenges that poor people face when responding to emergencies.

To help mitigate this intense crisis in 2015, IDRF partnered with Edhi Foundation, the largest private owner of ambulances in Pakistan, to implement a 24 hour emergency ambulance service that operates in rural and urban areas across the country.

Edhi is a trusted partner of numerous government agencies and private organizations that permit its ambulances to pick up the sick and injured in the wake of emergencies.

Your aid has helped IDRF mitigate this issue by partnering with the highly reputable EDHI Foundation to purchase 165 ambulances that provide services in remote areas to over 20,000 vulnerable people.

Fast facts:

  • The EDHI Foundation operates 1,800 ambulances stationed throughout Pakistan
  • IDRF, through the EDHI Foundation, is working in nine cities in Pakistan
  • The average cost of an ambulance is $9,000-$10,000
  • Each ambulance is outfitted with tracking devices to enable the driver to receive real time data for more efficient routes
  • IDRF has worked with the EDHI foundation since 2015 in the wake of several devastating earthquakes
