Based on numbers over the first 10 days on the ground, SHINE/CDRS anticipated serving 120 patients a day at each of the Urgent Care Centers and the medical camp. Our partner's mobile heath units saw 300 to 500 patients a day. As the weeks went by, they expected the numbers to fluctuate and the nature of issues and ailments to shift from fractures, infections and dehydration to disease and waterborne illnesses that come as a result of poor nutrition and sanitation. Our teams focused on primary care, mother and child health and post operative care. Patients received emergency medical care (including diagnostics, small surgery, post operative care, etc.) as well as donated medication, food and water. The more serious patients were transferred to near-by field hospitals with whom our partners had established referral arrangements. PROJECT SERVICES Urgent Care Centres: Included fixed facilities (i.e. walled compounds, manned with security, etc) that served approx 120 people/day. SHINE aimed to establish 5 urgent care centres in ciritical areas. Mobiles Health Units: Included vans that were rented and then stocked with medical staff and supplies to find communities and provide medical services. Initially, there was an average of 2 mobile units in operation each day – though this number varied depending on the need and accessibility to rental vans. The mobile units attended to approximately 300-500 people each day. Partner: Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS)/SHINE
