PAST PROJECT

The project provided advocacy, rehabilitation and capacity building for the disabled & spinal cord injured people in Pakistan's 2005 earthquake, while, at the same time, created avenues for empowerment and building community networks.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The last phase of this program continued rehabilitation for the disabled as well as active community involvement and development. Over the course of the last three phases, the project has reached and assisted over 4,000 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and their families. This phase used the community based rehabilitation approach towards active capacity building of affected communities. This resulted in community participation and recognition of the voice of PWDs through "functional independence" while formalizing linkages between participating organizations.

Project Objectives:

  1. Established a Disability Rights Advocacy campaign by expanding the scope of the CBR model and including community participation as a crosscutting theme.
  2. Strengthened linkages between existing organizations, towards greater inter-organizational co-ordination.
  3. Strengthened internal capacity with regards to project management and implementation.
  4. Improved and expanded scope of existing services
