Supporting a common cause, Aman Ki Bhasha (Languge of Peace) united community members from varying religious and cultural affiliations who had all gathered to show solidarity for the flood survivors. The IDRF booth attracted great attention as IDRF's work with the local partners in the flood affected regions was highlighted through a video presentation which also outlines IDRF Chair Dr Degani's own volunteer work in the severe flood affected regions. Guests gave generous donations which will go towards IDRF's many health and rehabilitation projects set up in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwah, Sindh and Balochistan. Shashi Bhatia - Chair of ICCAD and Vaqar Raees - Chair of PCFSD delivered an emotional message to hundreds of attendees. Aman Ki Bhasha demonstrated that the entire community can come together in a spirit of brotherhood, showing by example the common threads of humanity that serve to bind the people of India, Pakistan and Canada. Also present were many leaders and dignitaries from the Durham region which included Mayor Dave Ryan of Pickering, Dan McTeague MP, Mark Holland MP, Joe Dickson MPP and Durham's Chief Constable, Mike Ewles. We would like to extend our appreciation to the event organizers who highlighted IDRF's efforts besides emphasizing the need and importance for our local community members to play their role in such a cause. And of course our successful participation would not be possible without our cherished volunteers like Jigna Rai and Ryan Binda who represented IDRF at this event. |
