PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND

It is estimated that many poor children and orphans need medical support for visual impairment because of the difficulties families face.

Through this project, IDRF and SARD has supported 600 vulnerable poor children, 5-12 years old, with optical glasses / spectacles in the Gaza strip. The main services and items provided under this project are eye examinations and distribution of optical glasses. This helped poor children in the region who have visual impairment and related problems.

PLANNED ACTIVITIES

  • Conducted a survey of the poor and needy families in the region to identify their needs. The survey was conducted by social workers.
  • The survey results were assessed in order to choose the most needy families.
  • Children found with other eye diseases during the survey were referred to Hayfa Medical centre for optical treatment.
  • Tender documents were prepared for purchasing optical examination services and optical glasses.
  • Tender documents were filled and returned to be evaluated so that the best tender could be chosen (a committee evaluated the submitted tenders).
  • An agreement was signed between the association and the lowest bidder.
