IDRF's First Fun Fair/Mela for Maternal Health PDF Print E-mail

IDRF showed its support for maternal healthcare through its first Fun Fair/Mela held on the 23rd of June. A fun-filled afternoon for the families and friends of IDRF, the day packed a variety of events at Toronto’s Taylor Creek Park, including a mini-cricket tournament, badminton and Frisbee.

The event was both aesthetically and gastronomically pleasing to all the attendees, with a multitude of colorful stalls featuring beautifully hand-crafted jewelry and bags from Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as an array of delicious BBQ and baked goods.

Not to disappoint the young ones, IDRF made sure to set up a designated Kids Zone, where the children spent the afternoon playing games, getting their faces painted, blowing bubbles and crafting with crayons, paint, and sidewalk chalk. Many even went on to win prizes while playing various carnival games like the “Fish Pond” and “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”. Judging from the wide grins on all the faces, it’s safe to say that the Kids Zone was definitely a success!

With all that said, it’s also important to keep in mind what charitable cause the proceeds from the Fun Fair/Mela are going towards, which is, the two maternal health projects in Zambia and Bangladesh. The IDRF hopes to support these projects in an effort to improve maternal healthcare options and health awareness in these areas, where extreme poverty increases the risk of maternal death.

IDRF would like to extend a warm thank you to all those who attended this year’s Fun Fair/Mela – your generous support as patrons and volunteers has truly made a difference and has made the day a great success for everyone.
