PAST PROJECT
IDRF provided four beneficiary communities in Somalia with lifesaving food supplies.  The beneficiary camps hold internally displaced persons who have fled due to both the devastating floods in the area, and ongoing fighting in Somalia's capital.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

It is estimated that up to 400,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have fled Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, since the worst fighting in 16 years broke out in February. HIRDA, IDRF's local partner in Somalia, informs us that "the dimension of the IDP plights is beyond the dimension of human understanding."  IDPs are currently living in overcrowded and under-resourced settlement camps, in very harsh conditions. IDRF provided beneficiary communities of Bardere, Gedo region in Somalia (100 families; i.e. 800 beneficiaries) with lifesaving food supplies.  Earlier this year, IDRF also distributed food supplies to persons affected by floods in the villages of Hilo Carmo, Cusbo Ayl, Kurmaan and Gargalis, aiding a total of 10,375 beneficiaries.
