| 2012 - Palestine - Distribution of Ramadan and Zakat Al Fitrah Food Parcels |

PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND The economic situation in the occupied Palestinian territory remains precarious, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where the rate of unemployment is extremely high. The high level of unemployment, associated with low purchasing power of citizens in Gaza, has meant that Palestinian families in Gaza are unable to secure their basic food needs. IDRF, with the support of Welfare Association, has been able to implement and support many projects in Gaza. In 2011, a similar project successfully provided support for some of poorest families in the most marginalized areas of Gaza. In 2012 the project continued to provide support and satisfy the urgent need for basic food items during the Holy Month of Ramadan, with special care taken to include families with orphans and disabled children. Food parcels were composed of key food items with high nutritional value, consumed by the average Palestinian family. Items included: rice, flour, white cheese, a variety of legumes, tomato paste, tahini (white sesame paste), oil (for cooking), tea, sugar, dates, jam, pasta, salt and halavah.

Targeted beneficiaries included:
