Clean Water, Healthy Children

11 August, 2015 Palestine, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
Lack of available clean water remains one of the most critical health issues across the Gaza strip. Pollution of groundwater caused by high levels of chloride, nitrogen and high levels of salinity in addition to the contamination of the main water reservoir has led to the spread of many water-borne diseases and illnesses, such as Cholera and Typhoid. The lack of clean and accessible water across Gaza is rapidly becoming a leading cause of preventable death, having particularly detrimental impacts on children and youth. For many Gazans, access to clean water is further limited due to high unemployment rates, low purchasing power and massive infrastructural damage.

Through donations from generous contributors like you, we have been able to extend our great work with our local partner in Gaza, Sawaed for Relief and Development (SARD) to provide a consistent source of clean water for children and youth.

Every day, a water truck delivers 1,000 litres of clean, potable water to 27 schools who are most in need. Each litre of water has been thoroughly tested by water inspection organizations such as the Ministry of Health and the Palestinian Water Authority and fully aligns with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.

The Clean Water, Healthy Children project has helped over 600 boys and girls from each school access clean, potable water to aid their learning and improve their health by preventing the spread of water-borne illnesses. With your sustained support, we can continue to help over 17,000 children and youth gain access to clean and safe water to improve their quality of life.

Note: At IDRF we are committed to managing your funds and being accountable to you as our donors with full transparency.
