Danforth Tragedy

24 July, 2018
Just after 10 pm on a calm summer Sunday, in the well- loved area of Danforth in Toronto, a man opened fire into a crowd of people. As a result, two people lost their lives, and 13 people are now in hospital, some with injuries that are life-threatening.

While investigators are still searching for the answers to this horrible act, what is certain is the pain that has been left behind by this carnage. The physical and emotional wounds that this event has caused will remain for years to come.

This tragedy sadly highlights the need for mental health awareness and treatment. As part of our development and rehabilitation mandate, IDRF will conduct mental health programs in Canada while supporting the victims of this horrible tragedy. These programs will be conducted in affiliation with local partners such as the well-respected Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and will be aligned with our development and rehabilitation mandate through which we strengthen the ability of communities to live safe and dignified lives. Please show your support by donating to the IDRF’s Mental Health Matters – Canada campaign today.

IDRF joins the bereaved families in prayers for their loved ones and wishes speedy recoveries for all the survivors of this crime. Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this senseless act of violence. #DanforthStrong
