Eyeglasses for Gaza

According to a medical examination conducted on over 60,000 students in Gaza by the Palestinian Information Medical Center, approximately 16% of respondents were reported to have a diagnosed medical condition; of this, 52% were attributed to a visual impairment.

Detecting eyesight problems early on is critical in preventing a particular condition from getting worse over time. Early detection can prevent vision loss and improve the overall health and well-being of an individual. Across Gaza, many poor and low-income households are unable to provide their children with certified optometry assessments and prescription eyeglasses. This can have harmful effects to the overall health and well-being of an individual as many eye-related conditions tend to worsen over time due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

In partnership with SARD, IDRF is providing 500 children and youth from targeted regions across Gaza with one pair of prescription eyeglasses following a certified optometry assessment. The direct beneficiaries for this project have been selected in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education in Gaza.

A $30.00 donation made towards this project will provide one pair of prescription eyeglasses to an identified beneficiary.
