Supporting Girls Education in Pakistan

05 December, 2015 Pakistan, Education
Across Pakistan, government schools face significant challenges in providing quality education to their students. Inadequate financing, poor governance, outdated learning materials and curriculum, deteriorated educational infrastructure and a lack of quality teaching staff continue to result in low student enrollment and retention rates. In addition to systemic barriers within the education system, women and girls often face several external barriers that limit their access to education. Across virtually all regions in Pakistan, female literacy ranks consistently below that of males. The disparity in literacy attainment is noticeably higher for females residing across rural and remote regions in Pakistan where access to quality education and specialized educational resources is limited, if at all available.

IDRF remains committed to supporting girl’s education in Pakistan. This year, IDRF in partnership with Zindagi Trust improved the quality of education at the Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School by providing 900 female youth with the opportunity to take part in various academic and co-curricular programs. This project is continuing to support the health and wellness of students by providing 200 kindergarten, class 1 and 2 students with a nutritious breakfast prepared and served to students daily. This year, IDRF supported a new initiative at the school involving the professional development of 56 female educators. This initiative was led by a professional development team working in close collaboration with teaching staff to improve daily lesson plans, diversify teaching strategies and participate in subject-specific training and workshops.

Your donation will help support academic, co-curricular and nutrition-based programming at the Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School. With your support, IDRF can improve the quality of education administered to students through structured professional development opportunities for female educators.
