IDRF & L2L (Licensed to Learn)

After the immense success of the IDRF – L2L (Licensed to Learn) initiative and the tremendous response for the project from golfers and sponsors alike at our previous Golf tournaments, we are delighted to be supporting L2L once again through the IDRF Annual Golf Tournament 2018.

HOW YOU HELP HUNGRY MINDS REALIZE THEIR DREAMS

Education is the cornerstone of social mobility, and the best vehicle for young people to transcend their circumstances.

But in Canada, when students want help, they have limited places to turn to. The challenge of catching up to their peers is then intensified when the high cost of tutoring can be out of reach for many students from lower income backgrounds, resulting in achievement gaps.

Licensed to Learn (L2L) was created in 2002 to empower students with the tools and confidence in themselves that are essential for success in school and beyond. Through a flexible and collaborative program under the guidance of experienced educators, L2L first provides students with tutor training that helps them understand how each person learns, who then in turn pass that understanding onto the peers they are tutoring. This not only provides personalized tutoring to struggling students but helps equip them with both a better grasp of how they can learn most effectively and the confidence in themselves to overcome future challenges, academic and otherwise. Student tutors receive, what is for many tutors, their first leadership experience, boosting their confidence and helping them to realize their own potential as leaders.

IDRF is proud that L2L currently has nearly 90 active school programs across the GTA. The impact among students and volunteers has been tremendous: 51,000 volunteer hours (students and educators) in the 2017-18 school year and 413,000 total hours of positive youth engagement over the last 16 years have been logged, respectively. In addition, over 23,200 students have been reached over the full span of the program. Both student tutors and peers alike have reported incredibly positive experiences with the program, with 95% of the students recommending the L2L program to their peers.
