On behalf of IDRF, allow me to express my deepest gratitude for this award. For over 3 decades, we have been working diligently, as a Canadian charity, to save lives and rebuild communities.
While we don’t do this work to be recognized for our efforts, we thank you, the community, and the organizers of MAX Gala for recognizing our work to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Alhamdulillah, we are proud to be an organization that works around the globe and follows the Islamic Principles of human dignity, social justice, and self-reliance.
Not only does this allow us to do meaningful work, it also enables us to emphasize that Muslims are contributing members to the fabric of Canada and to our society at large.
With the interest of generous Canadians, particularly Muslims, many of whom are in this room, this year we have helped Syrian refugees, distributed 1 million meals in Somalia and are in Bangladesh, helping Rohingya families that have fled the genocide in Myanmar.
Meanwhile, we continue our Clean Water, Education and Health projects in various parts of the world. IDRF is also embarking on a new Canadian program for youth leadership and job skills training. We look forward to sharing more about this new endeavour at our GALA on November 17, 2017.
I ask each one of you to visit idrf.com to learn about our projects and to support our work, so that we can continue to make a significant difference in the lives of many people, both locally and abroad.
Thank you again!
