JOIN IDRF’S UNITED WITH ROHINGYAS CAMPAIGN!
The federal government will be matching all private donations made between Aug. 25 and Nov. 28 to Canadian charities that are providing support for Rohingya refugees.
According to the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, “Bangladesh is now home to the world’s largest refugee camp, with over 900,000 Rohingya and other minorities [being] driven out of Myanmar by ethnic cleansing.”
The UN has asked for more than $434 million to help mitigate this humanitarian crisis but remains far from achieving this goal. In response, Canada has committed more than $25 million in humanitarian assistance funding for Bangladesh and Myanmar this year.
To do our part, IDRF has been actively working on the ground in Bangladesh and has been able to sponsor food aid for over 3,000 families to date.
But there is still much more to be done. To continue to raise funds to support food aid for those in the refugee camps, IDRF is launching its “United With the Rohingya” Campaign events across Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Calgary from November 22nd – 27th.
We encourage you to attend these events: For those who cannot attend, there is always an opportunity to make a donation online (A donation of $45 provides 1 family with food for a full month).
Join us in our efforts to support some of the world’s most marginalized people. Together, we can and we will save lives and rebuild communities.
Note: At IDRF we are committed to managing your funds and being accountable to you as our donors with full transparency. To do this, we are committed to ensuring that the funds you have selected are designated to the appropriate country. In the event IDRF receives funds that cannot be designated to the country selected, then please know that the funds will be redirected to support other vulnerable communities that are in urgent need.
